Police to make sure K M Mani reaches Assembly safely

Thiruvananthapuram: Inspector General Manoj Abraham IPS on Thursday said that the police would make sure Finance Minister K M Mani reaches the Assembly safely when he comes to present the budget on Friday.

“The police will adopt all measures to assure that the MLAs and the ministers reach the Assembly without any hurdles,” the IG told the press here.

Asked about K M Mani’s earlier decision to not stay back in the Assembly complex in the wake of the Opposition’s plan for massive protests on the day, the IG said it was up to the ministers to decide from where they want to come to the Assembly.

“The responsibility of the police force is to provide them security from the protesters. We have adopted all the required measures to assure their safety,” he added.

All the entry gates of the Assembly complex will be under the police security. The protesters will be prevented from entering the complex using barricades. The police will move against those who try to jump over the barricades.

The IG also informed that around 2800 police personnel have been deployed for the task under six SP officers.
