CPI-M alleges corruption over delay in textbook distribution

Thiruvananthapuram: CPI-M politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday said the reason for the delay in supplying textbooks for schools was corruption from some government quarters.

Talking to the media here, the CPI-M leader said that the government was deliberately delaying distributing the textbooks.

“The education sector has been smeared in corruption. The government is trying to destroy the education department by its frequent sloppy attitude,” he said.

Earlier in the week, the Opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF) had disrupted proceedings in the Assembly in protest against the delay.

They had alleged that around 50 lakh students in government and aided schools had been let down by the government’s failure to ensure the distribution of textbooks, a month after schools had reopened.

As per government sources, the printing and supply of textbooks are expected to be completed by July 20.
