Kozhikode: Beypore, Kerala, clinched twin honors at ITB Berlin 2026, the global tourism trade fair, marking a historic milestone as South Asia's first destination to earn the 'Quality Coast' bronze certification for sustainable coastal tourism.
This EU-backed award, managed by Netherlands-based Green Destinations, evaluates sites on 75 criteria across economy, environment, society, culture, nature, climate, and welfare.
Beypore also won the 'ITB Green Destination Story' award in the cultural heritage preservation category for its efforts safeguarding traditional Uru boat-building heritage.
These accolades build on Beypore's selection among the world's top 100 sustainable destinations at the October 2025 Sustainable Destinations Forum in Dubai. Officials expect a tourism surge, spotlighting Beypore's global appeal.
