Crime Branch finds Asst. Prosecutor trying to sabotage Paravoor sex scandal

Kochi: In an unexpected twist in the infamous Paravoor sex scandal case, the Assistant Public Prosecutor was on Friday removed from duty as the Crime Branch found out that he had tried to sabotage the case.

Assistant Prosecutor Ayub Khan Khan has been accused of trying to influence the accused persons in the case as the Crime Branch officials seized video footage and sound tracks of telephone conversation which showed Khan demanding and receiving money.

The data shows Khan demanding RS 1.25 crore from an accused person in the case. It was some of the other accused who worked to broker the deal.

The investigation team initiated a secret operation following suspicion that the Assistant Prosecutor was trying to undermine the case.

The case pertains to the sexual abuse of a minor girl by as many as 150 persons in 2010 in connivance with her parents. Police had registered over 50 cases in relation to the sex racket. Her parents were convicted by the court in the cases. She has been staying at the government orphanage since March 9, 2011.
