A treat in store for water sports enthusiasts

Kozhikode: It’s time for water sports enthusiasts to enthrall white water paddling on the unexplored river ways of the Malabar region.

Thusharagiri, a tourist spot nestled in the backdrop of the Western Ghats, is all set to host the third edition of the International Kayaking championship. Iruvanjipuzha and Chalipuzha, two of the best white waters in the region, will be the venues of the championship. The event will be held from July 22 to 26.

More than 50 contestants from over 20 countries including Poland, Russia and Germany have registered for this Kayaking championship.

With its top quality competitors and the amount of prize money, the Malabar River Festival is fast emerging as one of the Asia’s largest Kayaking championships.

Two-time world extreme kayaking champion Joe Morley from the United Kingdom, 2012 London Olympics finalist Mike Dawson from New Zealand and noted kayaker from Italy Max Benetton are among the big names to be featured in this year’s event.

Comprising an international kayaking championship, kayaking training programmes and rafting sessions, the Malabar River Festival is organised by the Kozhikode District Tourism Promotion Council in collaboration with the Kerala Kayaking Academy and Madras Fun Tools.
