CM to lay stone for Wayanad Medical College today

Kalpetta: It’s a day of celebration for the people in the hilly Wayanad as the work of the government medical college, a long-pending demand of the people in the district, is set to begin with its stone laying ceremony being held here on Sunday.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will lay the foundation stone for the M.K. Jinachandran Memorial Government Medical College at 4 p.m. at the SKMJ High School grounds here.

The multi-crore project will be constructed on 50-acre land that had been given free to the government by the Chandra Prabha Trust, at Madakkimala here.

According to a contract between the Chandra Prabha Trust and the State government, five medical seats would be reserved for students belonging to the backward sections of society.

The stone laying ceremony will be attended by prominent figures from the social, political and cultural fields. Minister for Health V S Sivakumar will honour veteran doctors on the occasion.
