Policeman injured, car damaged in DYFI protest march

Kozhikode: A constable was injured and the windshield of a car damaged in stone pelting by DYFI activists here Thursday during a march to protest against delay in distribution of textbooks to schools in the state.

Barring the minor incidents, the procession went peaceful, police said.

As part of the state-wide protest, more than 400 DYFI activists took out a march from Muthalakulam ground to the office of the Deputy Director of Education at Mananchira which was inaugurated by DYFI Central Committee member P A Mohammed Rias.

Elaborate security arrangements were made all alogn the procession route.

Vehicular traffic was affected for about three hours as police blocked some main throughfares in view of the march.

A policeman on duty at the Girls HSS sustained minor injuries and a car parked outside the Income Tax office was damaged in stone throwing by the activists while dispersing.
