Ganesh Kumar quits from executive council of National Games

Thiruvananthapuram: Former Sports Minister K B Ganesh Kumar Saturday tendered his resignation as an executive council member of the 35th National Games Organising Committee, citing dereliction of duty and callousness on the part of the Games organisers.

“I can’t be a mute spectator to the squandering away of public money. The national games has deviated from its professed aim,” Ganesh Kumar said in his letter.

The Opposition had recently said that arrangements for the Games, scheduled to be held from January 31 to February 14, were heading to a 'Commonwealth Games model' corruption.

On Saturday, Sports Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, however, refuted the charges of irregularities in preparation of the 35th National Games in the state, levelled by the Opposition.

"Complete transparency has been maintained while executing the works and multi-level monitoring of process are in place," Thiruvanchoor said.

“Most of the construction work connected with the Games was fast getting completed and sports equipment was also on its way,” he said.
