Vaiko meets V S Achuthanandan over neutrino project

Aluva: MDMK founder Vaiko Saturday met Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan seeking the Marxist veteran’s support to the protests against the proposed Neutrino Observatory in Theni in Tamil Nadu.

Apprehending threat to Idukki district from the Observatory, Vaiko asked the state government and people to oppose it. He had met Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala Friday.

"The Neutrino project will greatly affect the Idukki Dam and other check dams in the district besides Mullaiperiyar reservoir and the Western Ghats. They have planned to fill nuclear waste at the observatory mines," he alleged.

The Kerala Government and its people should therefore oppose it, he added.

“The Chief Minister told me that V S Achuthananthan had already been opposing the project and 'assured' to take steps to protect people's welfare. I hail his readiness to appreciate the steps taken by the Opposition leader despite being in two differing fronts,” he further said.

Vaiko has moved the Madras High Court against the project.
