Kumali: With the inflow of water into the Mullaperiyar dam strengthening, four spillway shutters of the Mullaperiyar dam were opened on Sunday morning.
The water level in the dam is at 141.8 feet.
The district collector have issued a warning to the local people on the Periyar banks to be alert as chances of opening more shutters looks imminent.
The Mullaperiyar dam has for long been a bone of contention between the two States of Tamil Nadu and Kerala and has seen a series of legal battles.
Kerala has, citing the weak health of the dam, wanted to cap the water level at 135 feet, while Tamil Nadu fought for a full capacity. The Supreme Court has fixed it at 142 feet.
