Speaker bowing down to pressure from Chandy: VS

Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader V.S Achuthanandan Monday said the Speaker was bowing down to pressure from Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.

"The speaker did not give any reason while rejecting the notice submitted by the opposition for an adjournment motion. By bringing the adjournment motion, the opposition wanted to find out where the ten crore rupees in bar bribery case and the five crore rupees in Solar case, had gone. But, Oommen Chandy is trying to use the Speaker for handling the assembly in the same manner the KPCC president controls the Congress unit,” Achuthanandan said at a press meeting.

“Apart from acting on the orders of the Chief Minister, the speaker also has to protect the rights of the opposition. Bringing adjournment motion is the right of the opposition. This right has been denied here. If the speaker and the opposition continues to take the same stance in the assembly, the opposition will have to fight against this," VS said.

"The ruling front is trying to sabotage the solar case by threatening the Sivarajan commission. The opposition raised its voice against this on Monday. However, the speaker was not able to give a reason for rejecting the adjournment motion,” he said.
