Murder of partyman in Thrissur condemnable, says KPCC Chief

Thiruvananthapuram: KPCC president V M Sudheeran on Sunday condemned the murder of a partyman in Thrissur saying there is no place for violent politics in the Congress party.

“The murder in Thrissur is condemnable although that is an isolated incident. Violent politics has no place in the Congress. The party men should never indulge in such activism,” Sudheeran said.

“The people are distancing from parties like the CPI-M because of their violent politics. That is a lesson to the Congress. It is understood that such a style of activism is creeping into the partymen at some areas. That is a frightening trend. The Congress workers should stay away from it,” he said.

The gang war between rival groups in Congress in Thrissur district had claimed the life of a local party leader. A C Haneefa, 40, a local Congress leader at Chavakkad in Thrissur, was hacked to death on Friday night. A six-member criminal gang stormed into his house without any provocation and brutally attacked him in the presence of his mother, wife and three children. Haneefa belongs to A group in Congress.

Police on Saturday arrested Shameer, a local Congress leader who belongs to the ‘I’ group in the party in connection with the incident.
