Govt to seek extension of dates for local body election

Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has decided to approach the Kerala High Court seeking extension of dates for the local body election by one month.

The cabinet meeting has also come down heavily on the state election commission, which stuck with its plans to conduct the local government elections as scheduled in October.

Meanwhile, the State election Commission is likely to conduct a press meet to explain its stance in the afternoon.

A high level meeting held between the State Government and State Election Commission on Monday to discuss the local body election had ended in a stalemate.

The High Court had earlier directed the State Election Commission to conduct elections to local bodies without putting forward any excuse to enable them assume charge on November 1 this year.
