SFI protest march to Secretariat turns violent

Thiruvananthapuram: A march taken out by activists of CPI-M's student wing Students Federation of India to the secretariat here protesting alleged discrepancies in the higher secondary education sector turned violent Wednesday leading to police bursting teargas shells. 

The trouble started when police blocked the agitating activists in front of secretariate and students pelted stones.

Police also used water cannons to disperse the students who tried to break police baricade.       

However, three activists jumped the police cordon and entered the secretariat complex. Police chasesd and took them into custody.      

Three of the injured activists, have been admitted to hospital, police said.
