Saritha S Nair disowns letter aired by channels

Thiruvananthapuram: Solar scam accused Saritha S Nair Monday disowned contents of a letter purportedly written by her accusing some political leaders of exploiting her.

Nair denied writing such a letter after contents of two pages of a letter, said to be written by her while in prison, was aired some Malayalam television channels.

What had come out was not the contents of her letter and she has the "original of it". "I'm being made a scapegoat by some with political motives," she said.

After spending some eight months in prison in connection with the solar panel scam case, Nair was released from jail on bail in February last year. Some 33 cases of cheating were registered against her.

The case shook the state's Congress-led UDF government after it took a political turn following the alleged link between three staff members in the office of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and the accused.

Seizing on the issue, CPI-M-led LDF opposition had conducted a series of agitations demanding Chandy's resignation, which finally prompted the government to order a judicial probe into the scam.

The scam pertains to cheating people of huge sums of money, allegedly by Nair along with her accomplice Biju Radhakrishnan by offering people solar panel solutions.
