Munavvar Ali opposes RS seat for Wahab

Kozhikode: IUML leader Sayyid Munavvar Ali Thangal, younger son of late leader Shihab Thangal, has come out in the open opposing the move to nominate businessman P.V. Abdul Wahab as the IUML candidate for the Rajya Sabha seat.

“The party had faced a great loss once a businessman was given the seat. That decision had pained my father a lot. He had many times said that such a decision could have avoided,” Munavvar Ali, in a Facebook post, has said.

“The Rajya Sabha seat is a post that deserves for the disciplined and experienced party leaders,” he said.

Munavvar Ali, however, removed his Facebook post soon after his comment kicked up a controversy.

The meeting of the IUML State working committee, scheduled at the League House this evening, will take a decision on choosing the party’s candidate for the Rajya Sabha (RS) seat.

IUML State general secretary K.P.A. Majeed and the State secretary and businessman P.V. Abdul Wahab are in the race.
