Achuthanandan demands resignation of Education Minister

Thiruvananthapuram: CPI-M veteran and Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan Thursday demanded resignation of Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb for the "goof-up" in the 2014-15 Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination results announced recently.

In a statement, Achuthanandan said it was ridiculous for the minister to put the blame on software for the mistake in the results.

Many students, who did not appear for the examination, got 'A' grades and many who wrote excellently failed, he claimed.

Lashing out at the Minister for the 'goof-up', Achuthanandan said "education system, which was functioning very well in the state for the past many years, has been destroyed by the Minister and it has become a laughing stock in front of the nation."

Taking a dig at Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, the CPI-M veteran said, "One should admire Chandy for retaining such an inefficient person as education minister."

Discrepancies have cropped up in the SSLC results announced on April 20 following which Education Department has decided to verify and announce the results afresh.

The issue has triggered a controversy with Opposition slamming the government over the manner in which SSLC examination results were handled.
