Digvijaya Singh backs Shashi Tharoor on Modi praise

New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Thursday said he did not find anything wrong in party MP Shashi Tharoor’s acceptance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation to be part of a select group of eminent personalities advocating the Clean India campaign.

“I see nothing wrong in Shashi Tharoor accepting to be Brand Ambassador for Swachhta Abhiyan. It is Congress Party programme adopted by Modi,” Digvijaya tweeted.

Expressing resentment at party MP Shashi Tharoor praising Prime Minister NarendraModi, the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee on Wednesday had decided to submit a report to the party high command seeking suitable action in the matter.

Responding to the KPCC decision to recommend ‘appropriate’ action for his statements supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tharoor had said he was hurt by the suggestion that he was eager to join the BJP.

The Congress MP had responded positively to Modi's invitation to join the ambitious Swachh Bharat campaign but wanted it to be a sustained programme instead of being "tokenism".

Responding to Modi's call, Tharoor had last week said he was honoured to accept the invitation to join the 'Clean India campaign'.
