Vayalar Award for K.R Meera

Thiruvananthapuram: Writer K.R Meera has won the 38th Vayalar Rama Varma Memorial Literary Award for 2014. The award is for her novel 'Aarachar'.

The novel 'Aarachar' is based on the life of a hangwoman.

It centres around India's first hangwoman Chetna Grddha Mullick, who shot to limelight with the execution of Dhananjay Chatterjee, convicted for rape and murder.

The novel, published in Malayalam in 2012, has been translated to English.

The Vayalar award instituted by the Vayalar Ramavarma Memorial Trust carries a cash prize of Rs.25,000, a statuette and a citation.
