B. Hridayakumari passes away

Thiruvananthapuram: B. Hridayakumari, winner of the Kerala Sahitya Academy award and a literary critic, died at a private hospital here Saturday. She was 84.

She was suffering from age related illness.

Literary critic, orator and educationist, Hridayakumari had taught English literature in various government colleges in Kerala for about four decades.

She had written extensively and gave lectures on literature, philosophy and education. She headed a committee constituted by the Kerala State Higher Education Council to suggest improvements and reforms to the choice-based credit-and-semester system.

Daughter of freedom fighter and poet Bodheswaran and Karthyayani Amma, Hridayakumari was elder sister of poet and environmental campaigner Sugathakumari.

The funeral will take place here later in the day here.
