Govt not prepared to clear KSRTC's liabilities

Kochi: Kerala government Wednesday informed the High Court that it was not prepared to clear the liabilities of the ailing Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC).

An affidavit in this regard was filed by Deputy Secretary of Transport department, Saramma Abraham, on a batch of petitions complaining non-payment of pension.

It was also pointed in the affidavit that KSRTC, being a separate entity, should find resources to meets its liabilities. It cannot always depend on the government for working capital requirements, including pension liabilities.

The government also informed the court that they had paid Rs 150 crore last year to the corporation and Rs 1,263 crore in the last five years.

Earlier, during the consideration of the case, the high court had asked the government to come out with its stand on the possibility of taking over the KSRTC's liabilities.
