Kalpetta: A gun battle broke out between the Maoists and Thunderbolts of the Kerala Police at Vellamunda in Wayanad on Sunday. However, there was no casualty.
The incident was reported from Vellamunda police station limits in Wayand, where the special police force was on combing operation.
Speaking on the incident, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said the thunderbolt were on search for the Maoists in the forest, when they fired at the police team and police also returned fire several rounds.
“All police stations in Wayanad district have been asked to step up alert. There is no panic situation,” he said.
The Kerala Police have been maintaining a close watch in the tribal areas as these were the places that the Maoists used to frequent. Two companies of the Thunderbolts are camping in the forest area.
"Things are absolutely under the control of police and there is no need for any panic or fear as our police are fully geared and ready to tackle them," added Chennithala.
