Thousands pay homage to Krishna Iyer

Kochi: Thousands of people from all walks of life and from different parts of the state paid their respect to eminent jurist V R Krishna Iyer, who died here yesterday.

Justice Iyer, who turned 100 on November 13, breathed his last at a private hospital here last evening following multiple organ failure.

Since last evening there has been a steady stream of mourners both at the private hospital where he died and at his residence, "Satgamaya".

Iyer's body was brought to the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium at Kadavanthara this morning to enable the public pay their homage.

The Kerala High Court is observing a holiday today as a mark of respect to Justice Iyer. Schools and government offices in Cochin Corporation are not functioning today.

The body will be kept at the stadium till about 2 p.m before being taken to his residence for the family to perform the traditional rites.

The cremation with full state honours will be held at 6 p.m today.
