No concrete plan to use Nirbhya fund: TN Seema MP

Thiruvananthapuram: Condemning the recent rape of a woman executive in Delhi, CPI-M Rajya Sabha member T N Seema Wednesday alleged the Centre has no definite plan to use the Nirbhaya Fund to bridge gaps in gender sensitive policing, provision of legal aid and gender sensitive medical services for rape victims.

"The recent Uber cab rape incident in Delhi not only brings back bitter memories of the December 2012 Nirbhaya rape case, but rather exposes government's inability to ensure safety to women," Rajya Sabha member from Kerala said in a statement here.

She also brought to focus the recent media reports of scrapping a project envisaged to provide medical, legal, police and psychological support services to survivors in distress under one roof.

The project proposed to set up such centres in each district in the country. The project was conceived in the aftermath of the Nirbhaya case on the recommendations of the Justice Verma Committee after considering the inadequacy of existing infrastructure, she said.
