Thiruvananthapuram: BJP national president Amit Shah will arrive here on Sunday night.
On his first visit to the state as party president, he will be received at the airport by party state president V Muralidharan, veteran leader O Rajagopal and former national secretary P K Krishnadas. He will stay at the Government Guest house.
Shah will have a darshan at Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple on Monday morning at 8.30 am and will address the valedictory of the party state council meeting to be held at the Samskrithi Bhavan at 11 am. He will address a delegates’ session of party office-bearers from the level of booth presidents and above, at Thiruvallam bypass ground at 2 pm on Monday.
Around 6000 delegates will attend the meeting. BJP spokesman V V Rajesh said the meeting would chalk out plans for the party to achieve major gains in the local body elections scheduled for next year.
Rajesh said as part of toeing the national policy of refraining from pomp and luxurious style of functioning, the national president will avoid using chartered flight and staying at luxury Hotel. As he is included under the ‘Z’ plus security category, the State Government also will be ensuring strict security measures.
A close associate of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah had made a pivotal role in building the party from his youth days. His administrative and political acumen were tested and proved when the Modi Government scored a hat trick victory in Gujarat.
Under his supervision, BJP won 73 of the 80 seats contributing the lion’s share of seats for the party to claim simple majority on its own in the Lok Sabha.
