Will abide by party’s decision, says C. Divakaran

New Delhi: CPI national executive member C. Divakaran, who is facing disciplinary action of the party’s state committee over Bennett Abraham’s choice as the Lok Sabha poll candidate, Monday said he would abide by the party’s decision on the matter.

“I will accept any decision to be taken at the party’s national executive,” he told reporters here.

“The candidate selection in the Thiruvananthapuram constituency was a collective decision, not of an individual,” he added.

According to sources, the Communist Party of India (CPI) national executive, which is scheduled to meet at New Delhi today, will take up the disciplinary action issue initiated by the State party leadership against three key State and district-level leaders last week.

The State leaders are likely to submit their report on the decisions taken by the State executive and State council to the party general secretary on Monday.

The Lok Sabha poll result came as a severe blow to the LDF in general and CPI in particular as Rajagopal finished a close second in the keenly watched contest, pushing Abraham to the third spot in the Thiruvananthapuram constituent.

The three-member panel which probed the defeat had indicted the state leadership and key district functionaries over the choice of the candidate. There had been allegations that the candidate selection was made with an eye on polarising votes of a particular community in the area.
