Zubeen Garg’s cop cousin arrested in connection with singer’s death

Guwahati: Assam Police Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sandipan Garg, cousin of popular singer Zubeen Garg, was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the singer’s death in Singapore last month, a senior police officer confirmed.

This marks the fifth arrest in the ongoing investigation. Earlier, North East India Festival chief organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, Zubeen Garg’s manager Siddharth Sharma, and two band members – Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amrit Prabha Mahanta – had been taken into custody.

“We have arrested Sandipan Garg. Now, we are completing the necessary legal formalities,” CID Special DGP Munna Prasad Gupta told PTI.

Sandipan Garg, a DSP and cousin of the singer, had been interrogated multiple times in recent days regarding the circumstances surrounding Zubeen Garg’s death in Singapore. He was reportedly present with the singer during the alleged drowning incident in the Southeast Asian country.

“Our team has taken him to court here, and we will seek police remand,” a senior officer added.

The four others previously arrested in connection with the case remain in police custody.

Zubeen Garg, a celebrated singer from Assam, died on September 19 while swimming in Singapore. He had travelled to the country to participate in the 4th edition of the North East India Festival, organised by Shyamkanu Mahanta and his company.
