New Delhi: Delhi High Court has offered another chance to Zee News to submit the source from which the attributed confessional statement of Asif Iqbal Tanha, an anti-CAA activist, also an accused in Delhi riots case.
The Single Bench of Justice Vibhu Bakhru denied the channel's request for submitting in a sealed cover the name of the journalist who leaked the said confessional statement.
The DCP Special Cell, New Delhi who is the first respondent in the petition filed by Asif Iqbal Tanha, had submitted that none of the police personnel leaked out any details of the investigation.
Asif, the 24 year old student of Jamia Millia Islamia, was arrested under UAPA charges, by the police alleging links with the violence in North East Delhi in February 2020.
In a petition filed in August, naming Zee News, Op India and various other media agencies, Asif alleged that the news outlets have made various statement based on purported disclosure statements drawn by the police.
"Sole aim of such disclosures appears to be to vilify and severely prejudice the fair trial rights," the petition had said.
