Bhopal: Police have cracked the mystery of two young lovers missing in Madhya Pradesh's Morena district for several days after questioning the girl’s family.
Shivani Tomar 18, and Radheshyam Tomar, 21—hailing from the district’s Ratanbasai village and neighouring Balupura respectively—were shot dead in a suspected case of dishonour killing, NDTV reported citing police.
Ending days of mystery, their bodies were recovered from a crocodile-infested river, according to the report.
Shivani Tomar’s family was strongly against her relationship with Radheshyam from the neigbouring village.
Radheshyam's father approached the police complaining that his son and the woman had been missing for several days.
He told the police that he suspected they were killed but the police thought that the young lovers had run away.
A probe led them to the finding that no one in the village had seen the pair leaving.
Subsequently, the police questioned the woman's father and relatives for hours, before they admitted to the crime.
Shivani’s family shot dead both of them on June 3 and tied their bodies to heavy stones which they threw into the Chambal River.
We interrogated the family members of the woman during which they confessed to the crime. The woman's family told us that murdered the couple and threw their bodies into Chambal River. We took the help of rescue teams to retrieve the bodies,’ a police officer was quoted as saying.
Their bodies were submerged in the river which has more than 2,000 alligator and 500 freshwater crocodiles.
