Karnataka man drowns his daughter for loving a boy from a different community

Ballari: In a case of honour killing, a man in Karnataka's Bellari district drowned his daughter for having a love affair with a boy from a different community, police said.

The accused, Omkar Gowda is reported to have repeatedly warned his daughter against her continuing the relationship before committing this heinous crime.

He is said to have taken her out on the pretext of going to a movie on October 31 allegedly to commit the crime.

The girl's body was fished out from a water body in Ballari district's Kudathini town.

Gowda fled the crime scene, only to return later and confess to the crime.

Being late for the movie they left the theatre and went to a temple, before going to a jewellery shop to buy her ornaments.

Afterwards, he took her to the High-Level Canal in the area and pushed her into the water, according to India Today.

The police said the accused remained unswayed when his daughter made desperate cries for help while she was drowning.

It was on the complaint made by the mother and brother of the girl upon their not returning, the police filed a missing case.

A day later on Tuesday when Omkar Gowda returned police arrested him.

The police arrested the accused upon his return a day after the crime, to whom Gowda confessed that he had killed his daughter.
