Yediyurappa reveals BJP's understanding with JDS for 2024 Lok Sabha elections

Bengaluru: Former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa revealed that the BJP has reached an understanding with the Janata Dal (Secular) for a strategic alliance for four key seats in Karnataka for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The BJP's dominance in Karnataka was evident in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections when they secured a whopping 25 out of the 28 parliamentary seats, leaving the Congress and JD(S) alliance with just one seat each.

Independent candidate Sumalatha emerged victorious in the Mandya constituency. However, the political landscape has witnessed changes since then.

The JD(S), which had previously aligned itself with Congress, seems to be exploring new political partnerships. This development is particularly noteworthy as it comes on the heels of a meeting between JD(S) chief and former Prime Minister Deve Gowda and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Yediyurappa welcomed this collaboration, shedding light on the finalized agreement for four crucial seats.

The history of Karnataka politics has seen twists and turns, with the BJP initially emerging as the single-largest party in the 2018 Assembly elections. Eventually, the JD(S) and Congress formed a coalition government, which later collapsed due to defections to the BJP. Yediyurappa assumed the role of Chief Minister as the BJP took charge.
