Worms in protein powder: Bipasha Basu seeks Tukaram Mundhe's help

Mumbai: Bollywood actor Bipasha Basu has raised a food-safety alarm after allegedly finding small worms inside a newly opened jar of Isopure protein powder, a premium sports nutrition brand.

Basu brought the matter to the attention of Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Tukaram Munde through Instagram, sharing visuals that appeared to show worms inside the container. She indicated that the jar had only recently been opened and sought the authorities’ intervention over the quality of products being sold to consumers.

The actor’s complaint has drawn attention to food safety concerns surrounding packaged nutritional products, particularly those marketed as premium supplements. The matter also puts the spotlight on the responsibility of manufacturers and retailers to maintain proper quality and storage standards.

Munde, an IAS officer known for his strict action on food adulteration and safety violations in Maharashtra, has previously attracted strong public support for his enforcement efforts. Social media users have widely portrayed him as a tough administrator, while several celebrities have publicly backed his inspections and actions against food-safety violations.

Actor Shweta Tiwari had earlier sought Munde’s attention after claiming that a live cockroach was found among products ordered through Swiggy Instamart.

Several Bollywood personalities, including Preity Zinta, Twinkle Khanna and Daisy Shah, have also voiced support for Munde’s food-safety drives. A photograph of Zinta wearing a T-shirt endorsing his campaign had recently circulated widely on social media.

Basu, who married actor Karan Singh Grover in 2016, has largely stayed away from films in recent years. Her last full-length film appearance was in Alone in 2015.
