Woman gets gang-raped inside New Delhi railway station

New Delhi: The Indian Railways said on Saturday that two of its employees allegedly raped a woman at the New Delhi station. Police have arrested four, including the two who stood guard outside the room where the survivor was taken, PTI reported.

They arrested four who worked in its electrical department, Railways said.

The Delhi Police have identified them as Satish Kumar (35), Vinod Kumar (38), Mangal Chand Meena (33) and Jagdish Chand (37).

On Friday, the woman was found on platform 8-9, and she told the incident to officials, who informed the Railway Protection Force (RPF).

According to Railways, the woman told its officials that she has been separated from her husband for the last one year and is engaged in a court case for divorce. Around two years back, she met a man through a common friend. The man told her that he was a railway employee and could arrange a job for her too.

Both kept in contact over the phone, and on July 21, the man- who is among the accused- invited her to his son's birthday party and to buy a new house.

The man picked up the survivor from Kirti Nagar metro station around 10.30 pm and brought her to platforms 8-9 at the railway station. He asked her to sit in a hut for electrical maintenance staff, Railways narrated. Later, the man came to the hut along with his friend and bolted it from inside. The two sexually assaulted the woman one after another. Two accomplices of the accused facilitated the assault by guarding the room from outside.

The four arrestees were produced before a local court, and the court sent them to judicial custody, Railway informed.
