A day after International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women was observed worldwide, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday assured women and girls that his government would give prime importance to the safety of women and girl students in workplaces and educational institutions. He will protect them like a father, he added.
"I will protect you not only as Chief Minister but like a father," he said. Stalin further called upon educational institutions and firms to not cover up complaints and incidents of sexual offences to 'protect the reputation' of the institution. He urged authorities to act properly and responsibly. Administrators of educational institutions and forms must take appropriate action on complaints, he said. To the victims of sexual assault, he said not to take any extreme steps but to fight and bring perpetrators before the law.
"The government will take action against whoever exploits women sexually and give utmost importance to protect children and women," Stalin said.
The government has set a target to end crimes against women and children, Stalin informed. He further urged survivors to contact the helpline 1098.
