Chennai: Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) President VK Sasikala has been hospitalized for respiratory issues, back pain and fever. VK Sasikala, the former close aide of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Jayalalitha, was rushed to Bengaluru's Bowring Hospital from Parapanna Agrahara prison.
Sasikala was first taken to the hospital within Bengaluru jail where she is serving a four-year term for a disproportionate assets case. The doctors at the Bengaluru jail hospital suspected Sasikala might have contracted COVID-19 since her blood oxygen level was low at the time of admission.
However, her Rapid Antigen Test came out negative. She was then tested for RT-PCR, the report of which is expected in a few hours. Doctors who examined Sasikala said her condition was not serious and is now stable.
Sasikala's hospitalization comes a week before her expected release from prison on 27th January.
