Violence erupts in Jaipur's Mahesh Nagar over illegal liquor sales

Jaipur: Tension flared in Rajasthan's Mahesh Nagar late Sunday night after locals protested alleged after-hours liquor sales near Kartarpura drain, sparking clashes, vandalism, and arson.

A dispute between residents and the shop operator's associates escalated into a brawl, with reinforcements called in. Mobs vandalized three motorcycles and a Scorpio SUV; one bike was torched in front of police, prompting panic as locals rushed out.

Resident Ramavatar Saini was injured in the melee. Angry protesters briefly blocked an ambulance, demanding arrests, before multi-station police forces—including from Mahesh Nagar, Sodala, Shiprapath, and Jyoti Nagar—intervened under ACP Sunil Kumar. The situation calmed, and Saini was hospitalized.

Locals said prior complaints about illegal sales were ignored. Over a dozen suspects are detained; police vow strict action against vandals and arsonists.
