Ajmer: A man was seen being assaulted by a group in public in the Ajmer district of Rajasthan, and the video footage of the attack has surfaced on social media. The video shows one of the assaulters asking the man to go to Pakistan, reports The Indian Express.
The victim, among a few others in the video, appeared to be seeking alms.
Ajmer police said that the incident happened last week, and they took five people into preventive custody.
Ajmer district Circle Officer, Mukesh Kumar Soni, said that the police saw the video on August 20th and booked the five assaulters the very next day under Section 151 of CrPC- arrest to prevent the commission of cognizable offences. He said that as per the preliminary investigation, the incident happened four days ago, in the Subhash Nagar area, which is under Ramganj police station.
The police tried to trace the victim but failed, says the report.
They presume that he is a Muslim from Uttar Pradesh who came to Rajasthan for pilgrimage. Police had detained the accused for a day and presented them before a magistrate before they were released on bail, Soni said.
The five accused taken into preventive custody were Lalit Sharma, 40; Surendra, 32; Tejpal, 27; Rohit Sharma, 32; and Shailendra Tank, 31.
But before their release, preventive action was taken against the accused under Section 108 of CrPc but the police couldn't file an FIR since the victim had not approached the police with a complaint.
The police added that if the victim comes forward, FIR will be registered against the assaulters under sections including disruption of communal harmony.
