VHP seeks expulsion of Jamia students over ‘anti-India’ graffiti

New Delhi: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Friday demanded strict action, including expulsion from campus, against those behind controversial slogans written on the walls of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI). The graffiti surfaced at a time when students have been protesting for the revival of the university’s students’ union.

VHP national spokesperson Vinod Bansal criticised the slogans in a post on X, describing their appearance at a prominent central university in the national capital as deeply regrettable. He alleged that the writing of slogans such as “Free Kashmir”, “Free Palestine”, “Free Sharjeel Imam”, “VC Go Back” and “RSS Go Back” pointed to a deliberate attempt to undermine the institution.

Bansal suggested that certain groups were trying to convert the university into a centre of activities against the country. He also accused sections of the political establishment of extending support to such elements.

In strongly worded remarks, the VHP leader alleged that those responsible had described the Constitution as “fascist” and raised provocative slogans. He claimed that senior Congress leaders had come out in support of such voices.

Bansal directly questioned the Congress leadership, including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, asking whether they supported people he described as “traitors” or stood with the Constitution, democracy and national unity. He demanded an end to what he called political protection for anti-national ideologies.

The VHP spokesperson said such elements should face social isolation and urged the university administration and Delhi Police to identify those involved and remove them from the campus.

Meanwhile, reports said the Delhi Police had begun an investigation into the incident.
