New Delhi: Senior Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi stated that the assembly election is crucial as it is the right time to defeat hatred.
The elections are scheduled to be held in five major states including Uttar Pradesh. The Central Election Commission has already announced that polling will be conducted in seven phases from February 10 to March 7.
India experienced a rise in hate crime and communal violence after 2014. Most of the cases of hate crime are reported in the states dominated by the right-wing Hindu organization BJP. Minorities are under constant threat and subjected to violence across the country making India one of the most vulnerable countries to live in. Dissent and political voice are oppressed in the country. Political analysts and scientists predict the upcoming elections as the last ray of hope to retain the democratic values in the country.
