Aligarh: A woman in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh threw acid on a man in a restaurant accusing him of blackmailing her, NDTV reported.
The woman, whose identity is not known, claimed the man promised to marry her but kept blackmailing instead, demanding money.
The victim, identified as Vivek, suffered burn injuries.
A few minutes into conversation after meeting at the restaurant as planned, the woman pulled out a bottle from her bag and threw a liquid on his face.
Having his arms burned in the attack, Vivek removed his shirt and fled from the scene the police could arrive.
The woman admitted to have thrown acid on him, claiming that he was blackmailing her, adding ‘I didn't marry him and married someone else. I'm divorced...he told me he would marry me but he kept on threatening me’.
The restaurant manager said a woman came there while the place was being cleaned and she waited outside and five minutes later a man joined her. They later ordered a dosa and chole bhature.
He added: ‘They were talking and I went for breakfast. A man came running and said sir, please see what happened...I couldn't understand what happened, and then the woman said, I threw acid on him’.
It is reported citing police that the woman also suffered injuries and was given treatment.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mayank Pathak said the man was on the run, adding that it was too early to comment on the woman's claims of having been blackmailed.
