UP Police Chief removed for "Disobeying Orders"

New Delhi: The Yogi Adityanath Administration in Uttar Pradesh removed the state's chief of police for 'not taking interest in work' and 'disobeying orders'.

Director General of Police Mukul Goel will now occupy the insignificant post of the Director General (DG) of the Civil Defence department, according to NDTV.

Additional Director General of Police Prashant Kumar has stepped into the vacant position.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was reportedly unhappy with Mukul Goel's performance.

He wouldn't attend a key meeting with Chief Minister on the law and order situation in the state last month.

This 1987 batch IPS officer became the state's top cop in July 2021.

Back then, the top cop said he would focus on crime control and ensure policemen were sensitive and connected to people in the state.

He had been previously SP/SSP in Almora, Jalaun, Mainpuri, Hathras, Azamgarh, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Saharanpur and Meerut districts.

He had also served in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police and the National Disaster Response Force.
