UP police barges into social worker's house, assaults family members

In an unprecedented move, on the midnight of November, 5, Hasanganj police unlawfully barged into the house of Zainab Siddiqui, a social worker and an activist based in Lucknow without any search notice or warrant. Police assaulted her family, including females,  dragged her sister and mother and thrashed them on the road while his brother and father Naeem Siddiqui were arrested.

The video of police brutality is making rounds on social media. In a video, police can be seen manhandling Zainab Siddiqui and her family. Police investigated about Zainab's participation and involvement in Anti CAA protests last year. There was no women police or lady constable during the entire process.

Zainab Siddiqui wrote about this incident on her Facebook timeline. She wrote, "Police illegally entered my house, beating us bestially and have taken away my father without any notice or warrant."  She also demanded help from the citizens.

Ruqaiyya, her younger sister, wrote on her WhatsApp story "save my dad plz".

Rajeev Yadav, General Secretary of Rihai Manch condemned this treatment of police, demanded fair investigation and extended solidarity to the activist and her family on behalf of the organization.

On Thursday midnight, soon after the incident, he gave the information about the arrest of Zainab's father.

Zainab Siddiqui told, "I am associated with a social work organization named "Humsafar" which only work for women and child rights and I have nothing to do with the violence that erupted during Anti CAA movement, I was only protesting democratically during that time".

"Police have unlawfully taken my minor brother and my father, they have beaten my family" she added.

Madhyamam tried to reach Hasanganj police station but couldn't get a response even after repeated approach.
