Sambhal: The Uttar Pradesh administration on Tuesday demolished an alleged illegally constructed Eidgah in Madhan village of Sambhal district after revenue authorities determined that the structure had been built on land officially recorded as a graveyard.
The demolition was carried out by the revenue department using a bulldozer following an order issued by the tehsildar's court under the provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Revenue Code for the removal of the alleged encroachment.
According to officials, the structure stood on plot number 208, measuring about 70 square metres, along the Asmoli-Lodhipur road in Madhan village.
Tehsildar Dhirendra Pratap Singh said plots numbered 208, 210, 218 and 417 were originally designated as graveyard land. While plot number 210 continues to function as a graveyard, plot number 208 was allegedly converted into an Eidgah in violation of its recorded land use.
He said the administration initiated proceedings to remove the alleged encroachment and restore the land to its original purpose after local residents raised objections and sought action to clear the graveyard land.
The demolition was conducted under heavy police security to prevent any law and order issues. Officials said further legal proceedings in the matter are continuing.
