Udaipur beheading: 5 arrested for sharing video of tailor Kanhaiya Lal's murder

Jaipur: Rajasthan police on Monday arrested five people in separate cases in  Hanumangarh district for allegedly circulating the video of the Udaipur tailor murder on social media.

The officials had asked people not to share the video of the June 28 killing.

Sirajuddin Hussain (36) was arrested in Hanumangarh town for circulating the video of the Udaipur murder, Superintendent of Police (SP) Ajay Singh said.

Tarsem Puri was arrested by Sangaria police station personnel, Rajkumar Jat and Mohammad Shakur by Sadar police station personnel, and Pavan Kumar by Nohar police station personnel for uploading photos and videos on social media with an intention to create terror among people, the SP said.

A tailor, Kanhaiya Lal, was hacked to death by two men, Riaz Akhtari and Gos Mohammad, with a cleaver at his shop in Udaipur's Dhan Mandi area to avenge an "insult to Islam".

The video of the brutal murder was posted online.

The two main accused in the case were produced in NIA Court in Jaipur on Saturday where an agitated crowd tried to attack them while being escorted outside the court premises. The four accused in this case, including the prime accused Mohammad Riyaz and Ghouse Mohammad, have been sent to NIA custody till July 12.

According to preliminary investigations, it was being said that the two Muslim attackers were angered over a social media post that Kanhaiya Lal had shared, supporting former BJP leader Nupur Sharma, who was embroiled in controversy after she made remarks against Prophet Muhammad.
