New Delhi: Post the remarks made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Telangana bifurcation and an outburst of anger, protest, and demonstrations in the state, the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi's (TRS) MPs on Thursday submitted a notice in Rajya Sabha for a privilege motion against PM, The Indan Express reported.
The TRS MPs K Keshava Rao Joginapally Santosh Kumar, B Lingaiah Yadav and KR Suresh Reddy submitted the notice under Rule 187.
The Andhra Pradesh bifurcation bill in 2014 had led to the formation of the state of Telangana.
The MPs said that PM Modi's statement in his reply to the President's Address on Tuesday that the Andhra Pradesh bifurcation bill was done in the most "shameful manner" was contemptuous. They said in the notice that the PM's statement attempts to show the Parliament Houses in the most contemptuous manner. It denigrated and demeaned the procedures and proceedings of the House and its functioning. PMs remarks are equivalent to finding fault with the MPs and the presiding officers for their conduct in the House, the notice said.
The notice further said that the August Houses run under the guidance of the Presiding Officer according to the Book and whose word is final. Finding fault on either count is a contempt of the House, which raise the issue of its privilege. The Prime Minister tried to fault the conduct of the Presiding Officer, it said.
PM Modi had said that Andhra Pradesh played a significant role in the Congress government. Congress divided the state, which gave it the opportunity to be in power that too in a shameful manner. Modi had said that instead of discussions, microphones were switched off, and pepper sprays were used. He asked whether the method was proper. This had infuriated the TRS.
The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, was introduced after the Telangana movement. It sliced out Telangana from Andhra Pradesh. The Bill was passed in Lok Sabha on February 18, 2014, and passed two days later in Rajya Sabha too. Telangana was officially formed on June 2, 2014.
