Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Sunday launched a fresh attack on former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), stating that a “drunkard” cannot be considered the father of Telangana.
His remarks came in response to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader Harish Rao’s assertion that KCR is the father of Telangana. Demanding an apology from Revanth Reddy for his earlier derogatory comments, Harish Rao claimed that while KCR is the father of Telangana, Revanth Reddy is the father of abuses.
Addressing a public meeting in Station Ghanpur, Warangal district, Revanth Reddy questioned KCR’s credibility, sarcastically asking, “For whom is KCR the father of Telangana? Can he wake up without the smell of liquor?” He asserted that personalities like Konda Laxman Bapuji and Professor Jayashankar are the real fathers of Telangana.
Accusing KCR of corruption, he alleged that the former chief minister looted lakhs of crores, was addicted to alcohol, and drained the resources of Telangana’s people. He also criticized KCR for failing to attend the Assembly while continuing to draw a salary and allowances for the past 15 months. “Why was he given the Leader of the Opposition status when he refuses to perform his duties? Why is he taking public money as salary but not providing any suggestions in the Assembly for the welfare of the people?” he questioned.
The Chief Minister also blamed KCR for leaving the state burdened with debts despite inheriting a surplus treasury. He claimed that the Congress government had to bear the weight of Rs 8.29 lakh crore in debts, paying Rs 84,000 crore in interest and Rs 64,000 crore in principal within a year. Revanth Reddy emphasized the need to inform the public about Telangana’s financial situation while assuring that his government remains committed to fulfilling its promises.
Highlighting the government’s achievements, he stated that 1.5 crore women have availed free bus travel, with the government covering costs of Rs 5,005 crore. Additionally, 50 lakh families receive 200 units of free electricity, Rs 20,610 crore in farm loans have been waived, and 57,946 government jobs have been provided.
Revanth Reddy also vowed to develop Warangal on par with Hyderabad, announcing a sanctioned budget of Rs 6,500 crore for its development. He credited the Congress government for securing Warangal’s coach factory and obtaining approval for an airport.
During his visit, he inaugurated development projects worth Rs 800 crore in the Station Ghanpur constituency, represented by senior leader and former deputy chief minister Kadiyam Srihari, who defected from BRS to Congress last year.
