Chennai: Police in Tamil Nadu’ Thanjavur have arrested a man for murdering a 26-year-old teacher on the school campus after she turned down his marriage proposal.
Madhan, 30, allegedly attacked Ramani at the Mallipattanam Government School this morning, according to NDTV.
The teacher, who was rushed to a hospital with deep cuts on her neck, succumbed to the injuries on the way.
It is reported citing a senior officer that there was a ‘personal motive’ behind the murder.
The probe revealed that families of Ramani and Madhan recently discussed their wedding but she rejected the proposal.
Following which, Madhan went to the school and reportedly attacked her with a sharp weapon.
Alongside condemning the incident, School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamizhi ordered counselling of the students.
‘We strongly condemn the attack on Ramani, a teacher who worked in Mallipattanam Government School, Thanjavur District. Violence against teachers cannot be tolerated. Strict legal action will be taken against the assailant. We express our deepest condolences to the bereaved family, students, and teachers,’ he was quoted as saying.
