New Delhi: The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Thursday issued a statement condemning what it said the ‘unconstitutional actions’ of Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi.
The CPIM said it “unequivocally disapproves’ of the Governor’s skipping of portions of the address to the assembly prepared by the state government.
In doing so, the Governor ‘brazenly violated the Constitutional principle’ by skipping the portions of the speech, the statement said.
The governor should act as the voice of the elected state government and the long-established convention, it further said.
The Governor’s skipping of the text that he formerly approved revealed his ‘antipathy’ for the government’s record in the sphere of law and order.
The statement also said that the Governor skipped references in the speech to contributions by the social reformers of Tamil Nadu.
Governor Ravi’s actions shows a growing pattern under the current BJP led government that use governor’s office as an instrument to undermine the Constitutional role of the state governments, the statement alleged.
