Mumbai police detained a 34-year-old woman on Wednesday following an anonymous call to the police control room, threatening the assassination of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The caller claimed a plot had been hatched and a weapon was ready to execute the plan, The Indian Express reported.
The call received at 9:13 am, prompted immediate action, with the Amboli police station being alerted after the mobile phone’s last location was traced to Andheri. However, the phone was switched off shortly after the call was made, delaying efforts to track the suspect.
Police investigators utilised technical methods to locate the caller, eventually tracing her to the Kandivali area later in the evening. Upon detention, the woman admitted to making the call, citing frustration with the administrative system as the motive behind her actions. Authorities confirmed that she had no connections to any group or organisation and no prior criminal record.
Further investigations revealed that the woman, unmarried and living alone, has a history of contacting the police control room over minor grievances. Described as mentally disturbed, she had previously sought assistance from the authorities for trivial matters.
A mobile phone believed to have been used to make the call was recovered. The police registered a case against her and issued a notice, summoning her for additional questioning.
The woman, who has studied up to Class 12, resides in Kandivali, with her younger sister living nearby. While police investigations are ongoing, the authorities believe the threat was a hoax with no credible evidence to support the claim of a planned attack.
