"Those who target us won't be spared": Hindu 'Sankalp March'

New Delhi: Protesting "attacks on Hindu community", many, including seers, political leaders etc., took the streets of Lutyens' Delhi on Saturday. The protesters donned saffron, various Hindu outfits' flags, tricolours etc., PTI reported.

The demonstrators staged a march, named 'Sankalp March', chanting 'Jai Shri Ram', 'Vande Mataram' and 'Bharat Mata ki Jai', from the Mandi House area to Jantar Mantar. It was organized by various Hindu groups.

As part of the event, a public meeting was held a Jantar Mantar, where North Delhi mayor Avtar Singh spoke and issued a warning to those target Hindus, saying that they "will not be spared".

He said, "Multiple Hindu groups have taken to the streets today for this 'Sankalp March'. We are here to raise our voices against the attacks on Hindus. They cannot be targeted or attacked... Those who target us will not be spared." He said that Nupur Sharma, who made insulting comments on Prophet Muhammed, must be considered innocent until the Supreme Court rules she is guilty.

Vishva Hindu Parishad international working president Alok Kumar claimed that Hindus are getting attacked everywhere, and he cited the Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal's murder.

"Our country will only run as per the Constitution. I've heard statements of Nupur Sharma, and she only gave two examples of Prophet Mohammad's life. Until the Supreme Court says Nupur Sharma is guilty, everyone should consider her innocent. Two judges of the Supreme Court made an observation, and it cannot be considered as a judgement," Kumar said.

Earlier, VHP had expressed disappointment in the court's severe criticism of Nupur Sharma.

The Saturday march was also participated by BJP leaders Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga and Kapil Mishra, along with VHP workers from Rajasthan and Bihar. The march led to the temporary closure of several roads in central Delhi.

The traffic police had advised commuters to avoid Sikandara Road, Barakhamba Road, Copernicus Marg, Firoz Shah Road, Bhagwan Das Road, Kasturba Gandhi Marg, Tolstoy Marg, Sansad Marg from Outer Circle Connaught Place to Patel Chowk, and Janpath from Outer Circle Connaught Place to R/A Windsor Place between 8.30 am and 2 pm.
